Mar 2010 - Shuckin' & Shaggin'
A group of Charleston Shag Club members helped the UMRC (United Methodist Relief Center) with their fundraiser on March 19th by giving free shag lessons to the crowd. It turned out very well and the crowd really enjoyed the lesson. Thanks to all those who helped out and especially to Jerry and Barbara Wade for leading the lesson.

Feb 2010 - CSC Dances at Ashley Park retirement community
A group of CSC members went to a dance hosted by Ashley Park retirement community on Valentine’s eve. We had a great time dancing and the residents of Ashley Park loved watching and joining in. CSC member Newt Cummings is also a resident of Ashley Park and I think he danced more than anyone! CSC will be working with Ashley Park to setup more opportunities to dance so watch for more information.

Dec 2009 - Charleston Shag Club presents Shag exhibition at Daniel Island Christmas Festival
A group of Charleston Shag Club members put on a Shag dance exhibition at the Daniel Island Christmas Festival. The group was well received and the crowd loved it. We did this in 2008 and were asked to come back for 2009. It was a little chilly, but we warmed up quickly once we started dancing. The Daniel Island Christmas Festival is a lot of fun should be on your list of events in December. They had many local area craft and food vendors and activities for the kids. It was held at the Family Cup Tennis Center on Daniel Island. Click the photo on the left to watch a video of the exhibition.

Nov 2009 - JB Pivots Beach Club Closes
It was with great sadness that a large group from Charleston and the surrounding area gathered at JB Pivots on November 21st to say farewell to a Charleston Landmark. JB Pivots Beach Club has served as "The place" to Shag in Charleston since the early 1980s. The club was packed that night as everyone wanted to say goodbye. Gordon Hanson, President of the Charleston Shag Club, presented a plaque of appreciation to Harriett Grady Thomas, current owner, for her 12 years of devotion to the Shag and Beach Music in the Charleston Community. Past club presidents and others also spoke of the fond memories and times shared at Pivots. Past owners Jean Steele, Alfie Herring and Joe Pye, along with Harriett and Dot Smith, current manager, posed for the photo to the left. Click on the photo to see the pictures from that night.
