The monthly meeting of CSC was held October 2, 2005, at the Island Clubhouse. The meeting began at 6:30 pm. All officers present except: Dot Smith, Linda Barnett The September minutes were accepted as published in the newsletter. Steve Wilkerson said that the Islander Shag Club has nominated Dot Smith for a Shagging Icon award and that the Orangeburg and Charleston Shag Clubs would be sending letters to support that nomination. Tom Trueblood gave the Treasurer's report, noting that the largest deposits have been from the Islander Shag Club for 1/ 2 of the facility charge for the Christmas party and the incoming ticket sales for Geechee Blast. Betty Mathisen gave a report from the SOS meeting of ACSC. All shag clubs are required to attend Spring and Fall ACSC meetings and 2 workshops per year. Highlights: Winter 2006 Workshop is in Columbia, Summer 2006 in Burlington, NC, Winter 2007 in Charleston (Islanders Shag Club) and Summer 2007 in Augusta (CSRA). A new shag club was set up in Spartanburg called the Upstate Shag Club. Hurricane Katrina fund raising was held on the street at Fun Monday. SOS Foundation matched the amount raised. Ron Whisnet asked members of SOS to support only SOS clubs. Questions were raised about non-SOS clubs advertising in SOS Carefree Times. Mike Rink brought up that ticket prices continue to rise for Workshop tickets when the original concept was for a working meeting and party that allowed people attend and get good information at a reasonable cost, with a nice, but not costly, party as a benefit. Steve W. asked Nancy Strother to talk about Winter Workshop 2007 which the Islanders Club will be hosting. Nancy said that she is already working on it and knows that she will need help with registration and the hospitality room. The Quality Inn is lined up as the host hotel. Party will be at the Shrine Temple. Any help would be most appreciated. Committee Reports: Steve asked George Lee to give the Nominating Committee report for the slate of officers for 2006. George said that he and Steve and Tug Mathisen put together a list and started calling members to see if they would be willing to work as offices in 2007. Here is the slate of officers: Steve Wilkerson, President, Tom Lufkin, VP, Polly Bulman as Secretary, Clint Altman as Treasurer. Sgt at Arms: Gordon Hanson, Heidi Yon, Betty Hall with Tom Ilderton as the Senior Sgt at Arms. Tom will show everyone the ropes and set up a schedule of meeting coverage for 2006. Steve asked all the nominees to come forward. Officers will be elected at the November meeting. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at that meeting. Please allow yourself to be nominated in November if you feel that you would like to run for an office. All participation is encouraged. Joe Tucker asked that the candidates get together with him for pictures for the newsletter. (minutes continued on page 6)
