Geechee Times

Steve expressed his gratitude to Hart for all his hard work for the club.  Hart has kept our financial records, completes all State & Federal forms, is the club auditor, and initiated the idea of becoming tax exempt.

Steve presented last year's president, George Lee with a plaque from CSC and a past president's pin from the ACSC.  George was thanked for his contribution and hard work to CSC.

CSC along with the Islander Shag Club co-hosted a meeting for several shag clubs in our district.  CSC contributed some of the food and Steve thanked Gale for cooking/fixing some of it.  The meeting was held March 26th at the ISC.  Steve stated that several of the clubs mentioned how lucky CSC is to have a place to meet & dance.  Many clubs in the Association have to struggle to find a place to dance.

Our next "Gathering" will be at Pivot's on Friday, May 13th with Lynn Lee as hostess.  Lynn has some great plans.  She said it will be "tacky night" and we are asked to dress "tacky".  The event starts at 8 p.m. with Ted Whitlock as DJ.  Invite your friends, it will be a fun night.

Linda Barnette reported that we had 52 members present and 3 guests.  Sixty-nine dollars was collected for food tickets.

Johnny Perritte won $54 from split the kitty and the other $54 will go to Camp Happy Days.

Walter Upchurch reminded everyone of the Gene Chandler concert and that there are tickets still available.

Meeting adjourned!

Charleston Shag Club Meeting   Minutes - April 3, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by President, Steve Wilkerson.  All officers were present with the exception of Tom Lufkin.

Secretary's report was accepted as printed in the newsletter.

Treasurer's Report - Tom Trueblood reported a beginning balance of $7751.13 and an ending balance of $8026.27.  He also reported that our Camp Happy Days funds to date are $1537.00.

Steve asked for any old or unfinished business with none being brought up for discussion.

Committee Reports:

Membership - BJ Kelly reported that we have 197 members with two new members joining at the meeting which gives us 199 members.  The new members are Bob Ramella and Shera Brackett.

Sunshine - Lynn Lee expressed the hope that March & April will be the worst months for sickness and deaths.  Lynn & BJ both expressed thanks to the club for their thoughtfulness.   Members who have been sick or hurt are:  Lisa & Travis McGaskill, Francis Lee, Dot Tucker, Gloria Kornahrens.  Our sympathy to Sandy Darling whose grandmother passed away and to Lynn Lee whose cousin passed away.  Our thoughts go with Tuggy Mathisen during his heart catheterization.

Geechee Blast - Gale Robertson reported that she, Roxie and Elmyra had a short Geechee Blast meeting before the club meeting.  Plans are going very well.  She asked for support from the club by contacting the Chairperson you worked with last year to sign up for this year.  They are planning a Mexican night on Friday night.  Because of the weather, the volunteer appreciation night has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 17th at 5 p.m.  Same format, pig pickin, side dishes, DJ's, bring chairs, coolers, etc.  Free to volunteers, $5 for others.

Newsletter - Joe Tucker stated that the newsletter may be mailed at a later time this month because we do not have a meeting in May (SOS), and he is taking vacation during the middle of the month.  Please send him articles, pictures, etc.

Steve announced that the Web site is up and running.  It looks good and the pictures are in color.  The newsletter will be on the Web site soon.  Not everything is up to date yet, but they are working on it.

Steve introduced Elmyra as our Dance Exhibition Coordinator.  She reported some of our members will be giving an exhibition to the N.C. Bankers Association at Kiawah Conference Center on June 13th at 7:30 a.m., and CSC will be given $500.   She stated that if anyone knows of any business or organization that might like to have an exhibition to let her know and she will send a general letter of information to that company/organization.

New Business:

Hart Roberts reported that CSC has been approved by the IRS for Tax Exempt status.   There are only a few ACSC clubs that have tax exempt status.  Thanks to Hart for all his hard work in achieving this action.

Respectfully submitted

by
Dot Smith, Secretary

Almighty god, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
