Charleston Shag Club Meeting Minutes May 7, 2006

The Charleston Shag Club meeting was called to order May 7, 2006, by Steve Wilkerson, President.   The meeting was held at the Island Club and started at 6:35 pm

Steve asked if there were any changes or additions to the March minutes which had been published in the newsletter. There were no changes. The minutes were accepted as published.   (There were no April minutes since we had no meeting in April)

Clint Altman gave the Treasurer's Report.

Geechee Blast:   Gale Robertson said that she and Elmyra met to discuss Geechee Blast plans. We will have the frozen drink machine both nights, pizza probably on Friday night, and Barbeque and sides for Saturday night.  The fashion show and workshop will be done on Saturday.   Ann Moore will be in charge of Sunday brunch and will need a lot of help. We will have 2 local DJ's, Betty Brown and Walter Upchurch.  There will be 2 out of town DJ's, Dick Hamrick and Clyde Waller.  We're changing the format and will have all 4 DJ's playing the last hour on Friday and Saturday nights.

Membership Report:   We do not have specific data.  We estimate the number of members at around 231.

Health and Happiness:  Steve said that Lynn Lee was not here but that he knew that Gordon Hanson's father was recently ill and may have had a stroke. Gale Robertson's dad had a pacemaker put in within the last week.   Steve asked for any other news. Harriett Grady-Thomas said that Jeff Tisdale's dad passed away.

Newsletter:  Joe said we switched printers.  We need more articles and input for the newsletter (recipes, music info, mystery shagger pictures).   Jeff Denison suggested that someone write a "what went on at Spring SOS" article.

Tom Lufkin talked about Fun Monday tickets. This is for a drawing at Fall SOS.   Tickets are sold with $7500,$2,000, $1,000, $500, $250 cash winnings. The club would get $200 if we sold the winning ticket. Tickets are on sale now. See Tom.

Tug Mathisen invited everyone to the Gilligan's Island Party (social) at Pivots May 19th.   Tug and Betty are hosting.    There will be Island decorations and food.  Everyone is encouraged to come out dressed as your favorite Gilligan's Island character.    There is a contest at 10 pm to judge the best costume.
