neighbor and that since the club is now more financially solvent, we have been thinking of doing something for a charity.

Steve asked George Lee to introduce Brooke Hallman as a representative of Camp Happy Days (CHD) to the club.  She gave a presentation to us on CHD.  Everyone at the meeting was familiar with CHD, so she didn't have to work very hard to get our attention.  She also invited the club to make a trip to CHD to give shag lessons and help with a dance one night at the camp.

After the presentation, Joe made the motion to accept CHD as our chosen charity. The motion was seconded by Jeff and the vote was passed.  We also voted to give the CSC half of the split the kitty each month to CHD.  There will also be a bucket with CHD signs on it at the meetings for any other donations that anyone might want to contribute.

Food Committee - Jeff Dennison asked for suggestions for next month.  It was decided to have "salad day".  Members are asked to bring a salad of their choice.

There were 63 members present and five guest.
Guests were: Gary Dykes, Bobbi Sullivan, Brooke Hallman, Bill Zidlick, and Maxine Smith.

Steve Wilkerson's winnings for half of the split the kitty was $73.  He donated $53 of the winnings back to CSC for Camp Happy Days.  Thanks, Steve!

Meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m.

Charleston Shag Club Meeting March 6, 2004

Meeting was called to order by President, Steve Wilkerson, at 7 p.m.

All officers were present with the exception of Ted Cowart.

Last month's minutes were accepted as published in the newsletter.

Treasurer's Report - Tom Trueblood
Beginning Balance - $8728.45
Ending Balance - $7751.13
Significant Expenditures:
ACSC SOS Cards $900.
Donation to Cooter Douglas' Fund $200
Postmaster Annual Permit $150

Sunshine Committee:  Steve reported that Lynn Lee was not at the meeting due to having gallbladder surgery.  He stated that he thought she was recovering well.  He also stated that BJ Kelly's mother had passed away.   BJ & Lynn are in our prayers.

Membership:  BJ was not present due to the death of her mother.  Steve noted that Bobbi Sullivan joined the club at the meeting.

Newsletter:  Joe asked if everyone was getting their newsletter.  He also reminded everyone to send him articles, information, etc. for the newsletter.

Geechee Blast: Elmyra reminded us about the "Geechee Blast Appreciation Party" to be held at Steve & Gale's on April 2nd.  It is free to Geechee Blast helpers, but all members are invited to come for a nominal fee of $5.  Party starts at 5 p.m. with a "pig pickin", BYOB and chairs.  Steve will honor the request for PJ.

Dot Smith told a little about the Chili Cook-off  being sponsored by the OASC at LT's in Santee on March 20th.  Charleston Shag Club is entering a pot of chili cooked by Tom Trueblood.  OASC asked if we would also send someone from the Board to be a judge.  Tom Lufkin will fill that position.  All are invited to participate.

Steve stated that he has several flyers from other shag clubs in the Association on events they are sponsoring.  He also stated that a district ACSC meeting will be held at the Islander Club House in Folly Beach on March 26th from 11 to 3.  Music and dancing will be scheduled after the meeting.  Steve also mentioned that club liability for "free pours" was discussed at the ACSC Winter Workshop.  The best answer for that seems to be shuttles (no drinking/driving).

Steve stated that Joe, George and others, in the past, have discussed how our club could be a better community/charity

CLUBHOUSE     Many Thanks  CLEANUP
to

Jeff Denison, Jim Carter, Betty Hall, Bob Weaver, Dot Tucker and Joe Tucker

for

taking part in a general clean-up day at the Island Club on Saturday,  February 26. With more member participation we could have accomplished a lot more.

Anyway,

the day began at 8:00 AM with a terrific breakfast provided by the Island Club….bacon, eggs, grits, three (3) kinds of sausage, biscuits and coffee. Real good!! Some of the tasks included painting the dance hall area and the areas leading into the bath rooms,  painting the plywood sheets covering the shuffleboard table, and cleaning out our storage room,  and cleaning the trash cans and the bathrooms. A job well done!!
